Claudia Li was raised in New Zealand, her father is an art dealer and her mother is from a family of artists. Li fell in love with fashion and painting at a young age and it was evident that like her family, she too would have a career in the arts. Following her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Li moved to London to pursue her interest in fashion design at Central Saint Martins. It was here that Li made the decision to move to New York City and work towards a Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design. Li then interned for Brandon Maxwell for Haus of Gaga and later worked as a womenswear designer for J.W.Anderson. In 2015 Li launched her eponymous label. Li’s background in fine arts is visible in her colllections which have earned accolades for their craftsmanship, wearability, and sense of artistry. Li was the winner of the FGI Rising Star Award and a U.S. finalist of the International Woolmark Prize. In 2017 Li was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 Art and Style honoree.
